About this procedure

Breast augmentation is a plastic surgery procedure which can safely enlarge the breasts of those who feel their bustline is too small, and wish to improve their appearance by making it larger. This cosmetic surgery procedure is also referred to as breast enlargement surgery, breast enhancement surgery, and sometimes it is called a “boob job.” A woman who is under-endowed may feel uncomfortable when she wears a bikini, an evening gown, or goes shopping for lingerie. She may also feel self-conscious about her breasts during intimacy; in which cases external padding can hardly meet her expectations.

There are many products on the market today, including: breast enlargement creams, pills, massages, exercises, etc. Those who have tried any of these solutions have found one thing to be true; none of them work. In fact, the only way to enlarge one’s breasts without surgery is through pregnancy or weight gain, and neither of these are permanent, or perhaps even desirable. Surgical breast augmentation is the only way to achieve a predictable, reliable, and lasting result. Fairbanks Plastic Surgery of Utah is well known for the quality of their breast augmentation surgery (breast enlargement, boob job).

Safety and Aesthetics

Our plastic surgeons have extensive experience in treating the under endowed female breast. We can perform the operation either under local anesthesia and sedation, or under a general anesthetic; whichever the patient desires. Local anesthesia is less expensive and the patient remembers nothing.

As with all our surgeries, every consideration is made to insure patient health and safety. Aesthetics and concepts of beauty will be reviewed with you during your consultation. We will also review the various approaches — and their pros and cons — with you prior to your surgery. We also offer silicone breast implants if the patient wishes to have them. We will work with you to create a plan to make you as attractive and proportional as possible using the most advanced methods of both art and medical science.

Can I Still Get Saline Breast Implants If My Breasts Are Too Small?

For a woman with very small breasts, there may not be enough soft tissue to cover the saline breast implants and achieve the optimal result. However, using the sub-muscular approach the breast augmentation can still be performed with excellent results. In cases where there is not enough soft tissue to camouflage the implant, saline implants should be placed beneath the muscle. This will provide sufficient soft tissue to cover and avoid the presence of rippling, which can occur with the presence of saline breast implants.

If the patient has sufficient soft tissue, the breast implants can be placed directly behind the breast gland, while achieving a beautiful result with less pain and discomfort. In cases where the submuscular approach is used, a period of time is required for the muscles to relax and adjust to the underlying implants before the final appearance of the breasts can be appreciated.

Will Having Breast Augmentation Surgery Alter The Sensitivity Of My Breasts?

Preserving nipple sensation is an important issue in breast augmentation surgery. We use an anatomic approach to breast augmentation in order to protect the nerves associated with nipple sensation.

While consideration towards preservation of nipple sensation may take more time and effort on the part of the surgeon, we believe that the time and effort are worth it to our patients and their ultimate happiness with the result.

Will I be able to nurse a child after breast enlargement surgery?

Yes! With the technique we use, there is no damage to the lactiferous ducts or breast glandular tissue.
